Interference in transport through single molecules in a STM set-up — •Sandra Kolmeder, Andrea Donarini, and Milena Grifoni — Institute of Theoretical Physics, University of Regensburg, Germany
We theoretically study the transport properties of single molecules in a STM configuration. The focus is on STM experiments, which measure electronic properties of individual molecules deposited on ultrathin insulating films on metal substrates. The insulating film allows to electronically decouple the molecule from the matallic surface. We model this geometry as a double-barrier tunneling set-up where we account for angular momentum selection rules governing tunneling processes from the tip to the molecule and from the molecule to the substrate. In turn this might lead to interference effects in transport, like selective conductance and current blocking, because of involved orbitally degenerate states.
