The interaction of adsorbates on a roughened Cu(111) surface examined with HREELS and work function measurements — Heiner Maslosz, •Olaf Skibbe, and Annemarie Pucci — Kirchhoff-Institut für Physik, Im Neuenheimer Feld 227, D-69120 Heidelberg
Rough an defect-rich surfaces play a key-role in heterogeneous catalysis as well as in surface enhancement effects (i.e. surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)). To contribute to a deeper understanding of the interactions at such surfaces, we performed vibrational spectroscopy (HREELS) and work function measurements of gases adsorbed on a Cu(111) surface which we roughened by evaporation of small amounts of copper at low temperatures. The examined gases are C2H4, O2 and CO.
