Superconducting MgB2 thin films were fabricated by magnetron rf and dc co-sputtering on heated silicon and diamond substrates. They were annealed ex-situ for one hour at 650 ∘C. The superconducting phase transition was characterized contactless by means of terahertz time-domain spectroscopy in the frequency range from 0.8 to 4 THz. For this purpose, amplitude- and phase-resolved transmission measurements of the MgB2 films for temperatures between 5 and 50 K were performed to extract the complex conductivity. The data show that both samples are homogeneous on a length scale of millimeters and superconducting below a transition temperature of about 22 K. This paves the way to investigate charge-carrier dynamics in MgB2 with time-resolved THz spectroscopy.
