We present a Raman spectroscopic investigation of Sr3Cr2O8, a spin dimer system with appreciable interdimer interactions. At T = 275 K the system undergoes a structural phase transition from hexagonal to monoclinic together with strong Jahn-Teller induced orbital fluctuations, that persist down to 120 K. Our temperature dependent study reveals phonon anomalies in this temperature range, as well as two magnetic modes with further decrease of temperature. We compare our results to theoretical calculations and previous neutron and infrared spectroscopic studies.
