We apply a recently developed functional RG (fRG) scheme [1] for quantum spin systems to one-dimensional spin chains. Based on an auxiliary fermion representation, the derived flow equations allow for a systematic resummation of perturbation series in the spin-spin interactions. The computed observables include the ground-state energy and the spin-spin correlation function as a function of the spin anisotropy. Comparing to exact results from Bethe Ansatz and DMRG calculations, we assess the accuracy of the obtained results. The importance of the Katanin modification in the truncated fRG scheme is addressed.
