Observations under moonlight with the MAGIC telescopes — •Nikola Strah — Technische Universität Dortmund, 44221 Dortmund
Observations during moonlight and generally under conditions of increased night sky background with Cherenkov observatories, if permitted by design of the camera, enable more efficient use of observation time. However, scattered moonlight adds noise to the recorded images, which can lead to a worsening in the gamma-ray detection sensitivity, particularly at the lowest energies. MAGIC is a stereoscopic system of two 17 m Cherenkov telescopes located on Canary island of La Palma. Observations under low-to-moderate moonlight are perfomed regularly. Here, we present a study of the performance of MAGIC observations in stereoscopic mode under moonlight.
