Measurement of charm and beauty jet production cross sections using secondary vertices — •Ozan Arslan, Ian Brock, Sebastian Mergelmeyer, and Verena Schoenberg — Bonn University
A measurement of beauty and charm jet production cross sections in photoproduction (Q2 < 1 GeV2) in ep-collision events at HERA with a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 320 GeV is presented. The analysis is based on the data which were recorded with the ZEUS detector during the years 2004 to 2007 and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of ∼ 300 pb-1.
The beauty and charm signal was discriminated from the light flavour background by exploiting the characteristic distributions of the decay length of the b and c hadrons and the invariant mass of the tracks fitted to the reconstructed decay vertex.
Total visible as well as differential cross sections as a function of PTjet and ηjet for beauty and charm jet production are presented and the results are compared with leading-order Monte-Carlo simulations and theory predictions at next-to-leading order.
