Kinematic Reconstruction of Tau Leptons with the CMS Detector — •Vladimir Cherepanov, Guenter Fluegge, Lars Perchalla, Philip Sauerland, and Achim Stahl — III. Physikalisches Institut B, RWTH Aachen
At the LHC with a luminosity of 2 × 10 33 cm −2 s −1 approximately 10 12 tau leptons are produced per year. This provides a good tool for a variety of physics analyses. The identification and reconstruction is challenging due to the appearance of a neutrino in the final state.
We present the development of a precise tau reconstruction in the three-prong decay modes based on a kinematic fit. The fit improves the experimental resolution and suppresses background.
