Study of Rare Di-muon B-Decays at the ATLAS Experiment — Peter Buchholz, Bakul Gaur, Kai Grybel, •Valentin Sipica, and Wolfgang Walkowiak — University of Siegen
The Bs0 → µ+µ− decay is allowed in the Standard Model only through one loop penguin or box diagrams, which are very sensitive to Standard Model extensions. Therefore, it is an excellent benchmark channel for probing New Physics effects. The LHC will be an abundant source of B mesons, allowing for the first time to set an upper limit on the branching ratio, with a sensitivity in the order of the Standard Model prediction (BR ∼ 3.6 · 10−9).
The strategy for the search of the Bs0 → µ+µ− decay is presented, with the focus on a cut based analysis. Variables introduced in order to separate signal from background events are discussed. Preliminary results of the ATLAS sensitivity to measure the branching ratio are presented using simulated data.
