Triggers for BSM physics in Jet(s) + Missing transverse energy topologies with ATLAS — •Sahill Poddar — Kirchhoff Institute for Physics, University of Heidelberg, Germany
Several BSM physics scenarios at the LHC are predicted to contain jet(s) and missing transverse energy in the final state. Triggering every such event is of utmost importance to analysts. In order to successfully do so, triggers rates have to cope with high QCD event rates. Moreover, a QCD event where a mis-measurement of the jet energy can lead to fake missing ET also tends to blow up rates. Hence, devising un-prescaled triggers for analyses is a non-trivial task. Moreover these triggers have to be validated well in advance in order to be ready and understood before data-taking. Several triggers have been specifically designed for such tasks. Presented here are efficiencies and performances for triggers such as single jet triggers, multi-jet triggers, missing ET triggers, jet + Missing ET triggers, missing ET significance triggers and triggers based on angular differences between dijets or jet and missing ET. Some of these triggers have already been used in 2010 data-taking while others will be used for the first time in 2011 data taking.
