Optimization of the granularity of the Beam Calorimeter — •Olga Novgorodova — On behalf of FCAL Collaboration — DESY, Plantanenallee 6, 15738, Zeuthen — BTU Cottbus, Konrad-Wachsmann-Allee 1, 03044, Cottbus

For future electron-positron collider detectors special calorimeters in the very forward region are needed. One of them, the Beam Calorimeter (BeamCal), is designed as a sensor-tungsten sandwich calorimeter. It is placed just outside the beam-pipe, and exposed to a large number of electron-positron pairs originating from beamstrahlung. One of the functions of BeamCal is the detection of single high energy electrons on top of the wider spread pair depositions to suppress background for several new physics searches. Using GEANT4 simulations an electron reconstruction algorithm is developed and optimized for different sensor segmentations. The electron detection efficiencies and fake rates are then estimated and compared.
