Influence of beam-related backgrounds on reconstruction of physics events at the International Linear Collider — •Katarzyna Wichmann — DESY, Notkestr. 85, 22603 Hamburg
Beam induced background at the International Linear Collider (ILC) has been studied in detail. It is clear that it will substantially contribute to signals from real physics events at the interaction point registered in the International Large Detector (ILD). Reducing this background is essential for proper functioning of the ILD software reconstruction scheme. In this study two most important sources of beam-induced background were taken into account: electron-positron pair production from the beamstrahlung process and events coming from reaction γγ → hadrons. Effects of such beam backgrounds for different components of the ILD detector and reconstruction of physics events has been investigated. Different methods of reducing the beam backgrounds are presented, as well as their influence on the quality of the physics reconstruction. Results show that in the presence of the beam induced backgrounds, reconstruction of physics events with the ILD detector at the ILC is possible and gives similar accuracy as the reconstruction of clean physics events.
