Scaling of stochastic transport in the presence of collisions — •Michael Rack, Andreas Wingen, and Karl-Heinz Spatschek — Institut für Theoretische Physik I, Heinrich-Heine Universität, Düsseldorf
Stochastic transport is of growing interest in edge plasmas with random magnetic perturbations (RMPs). To include collisions into existing forecasts for stochastic transport we first considered a simple model in form of the standard map with generalization to weak as well as strong collisions.
It is shown that the so called Kadomtsev-Pogutse diffusion coefficient is the strong collisional limit of the Rechester-Rosenbluth formula. The theoretical estimates are supplemented by numerical simulations. The numerically calculated diffusion coefficient for the standard map with collisions can be described by the sum of the Rechester-Rosenbluth diffusion coefficent and the classical perpendicular diffusion coefficent. A generalization for symplectic maps describing realistic RMPs in tokamak edge plasmas is in progress.
