Boosted Frames in Numerical Plasma Simulations — •Nils Moschuering — LMU Munich
Performing Particle-In-Cell plasma simulations in different Lorentz frames can theoretically decrease the calculation time by several orders of magnitude. The reason for this is a reduction in the discrepancy of scales present in the setup. To perform and analyze the simulations in boosted frames several software components were implemented, namely modules to shift the currently simulated space (moving window), change the currently simulated length of space and a data output which automatically boosts the results back to the lab frame. Simulations using boost frames are shown.
