Laser electric field measurements and fast ICCD imaging in a narrow-gap nanosecond high-voltage micro-discharge — •Sarah Müller, Dirk Luggenhölscher, and Uwe Czarnetzki — Institut für Plasma- und Atomphysik, Ruhr-Universität Bochum
The ignition of a new atmospheric pressure micro-discharge is investigated by combination of various diagnostic techniques. A high voltage ns-pulse ignites a discharge in hydrogen in a narrow gap of 1.2 mm between two parallel electrodes of 3 cm diameter. Laser electric field measurement as well as synchronous current and voltage measurements and fast sub-ns imaging of the emission give a detailed insight in the dynamics. Special emphasis is on an optimized combination of pressure, voltage risetime, and gap width to allow precise spatial and temporal resolution. A detailed discussion of the various discharge phases is provided.
