Determination of argon metastable and resonant state densities from emission spectrum — •Vladimir Sushkov, Hoang Tung Do, and Rainer Hippler — Institut für Physik, Felix-Hausdorff Strasse 6, 17489 Greifswald, Germany
The lowest excited states of argon atom in a discharge play role in view of many problems. In the present work we develop a method, based on interpretation of emission spectra, to determine their number densities. The new method utilizes the phenomenon of reabsorption of emission lines by comparison of experimental and modeled values of the escape factor. The results are compared with those from the normal TDLAS technique. The number densities of 1s5 and 1s4 species were measured as function of power (1-200 W) and pressure (2-30 Pa) in RF-discharge. The results of the both methods show very good agreement. Some discrepancy for higher power is probably due to changes of the spatial profile of the metastables, when the regime of losses undergos transition from the diffusion-determined to the electron collision-determined.
