Determination of the Mass and Width Resolution of the X(3872) Meson with the PANDA Experiment — •Tsitohaina Randriamalala and James Ritman — Nuclear Physics Institute, FZJ GmbH, Jülich, Germany
The X(3872) was discovered in 2003 by the Belle Collaboration. The nature of this meson is still not understood. One way to reveal the origin of this state is to measure its width for which, up to now, only has an upper limit of 2.3 MeV. The PANDA detector will have a very good energy resolution and thus can be expected to measure the width of the resonance with high accuracy (less than few hundred keV). A resonance scan simulation will be described in this talk. The more conservative estimate of the production cross section for the X(3872) has been taken from Ref[1] assuming the interpretation as a χc1(2P) charmonium state. Using the PANDA high resolution mode, the error on the width as a function of the signal to background ratio and as a function of the uncertainty on the luminosity measurement will be presented.
