Simulation studies for the measurement of pp→ e+ e− π0 with the PANDA detector at FAIR — •María Carmen Mora Espí — Institut für Kernphysik, Johannes Gutenberg Universität - Mainz, Germany
The physics program of the new PANDA experiment at FAIR concentrates on questions in the field of hadron physics and strong interactions.
One test of the correct theoretical description of hadron structure could be the measurement of the cross section for the annihilation of antiprotons off protons to produce a neutral pion and an electron-positron pair (pp→ e+ e− π0). The cross section of this process, in the forward limit and moderate energy of the pion, has been predicted via transition distribution amplitudes (TDAs) and could eventually be measured with the PANDA detector.
The simulation of the mentioned process is being carried out to study the feasibility of this measurement with the PANDA detector. The rejection power of the background has to be determined. Therefore, the same selection cuts applied for the signal have to be used for the rejection of the simulated background events. A status report of this study will be presented in this talk.
