Design of a Condensed Krypton Source (CKrS) at the cryo- pumping section of KATRIN — Stephan Bauer and •Richard Bottesch — Institut für Kernphysik, Universität Münster
The KArlsruhe TRItium Neutrino experiment will measure the endpoint of the tritium-β-spectrum by means of an electrostatic retarding spectrometer (MAC-E-Filter), which will allow determination of the mass of the νe with 200meV/c2 sensitivity (90% C.L.). To achieve this, it is necessary to know the transmission function and the retarding voltage of the spectrometer with a precision of at least 3ppm, which is realized using a combination of a high voltage divider and a monoenergetic source of conversion electrons (83mKr). The CKrS will be installed at the Cryogenic Pumping Section (CPS) of the KATRIN experiment.
Installation at the CPS requires redesigning parts of the existing source setup which are mounted on an UHV manipulator to be able to move the CKrS in order to scan the whole flux tube of KATRIN. Additionally there will be some modifications to the ellipsometry setup, since it is necessary to install several optical components into the UHV-chamber.
This project is funded by the BMBF under contract number 05A08PM1.
