Pion Tracker for HADES spectrometer — •Rafał Lalik — Excellence Cluster “Universe”, TU München, Boltzmannstr.2, 85748 Garching, Germany
The pion tracker is a new detector component for the High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES) for future pion beam experiments opening a new age of measurements with HADES.
In our group, we are currently developing a tracker system, based on double-sided silicon strip detectors for momentum and position measurements of pion beams with 1-2 GeV/c at SIS18, GSI. The challenging issue is to achieve an accurate measurement (≈ ‰) of each pion in a high intensity (108 part./spill) environment. The envisaged rate of 106 part./spill at the HADES target point requires a fast readout for these devices.
Silicon detectors with higher radiation hardness are currently being tested. For the readout, we have developed a system based on the Time-to-Digital converters (TDC-TRB) as a front-end within TRBnet as a DAQ system. Also a future readout based on n-XYTER ASICs is under development.
