Characterisation of AGATA detectors — •Benedikt Birkenbach, Bart Bruyneel, Andreas Wiens, Jürgen Eberth, Herbert Hess, Daniel Lersch, and Peter Reiter — Institut für Kernphysik, Universität zu Köln
The Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) utilizes pulse shape analysis to localize the γ-ray energy deposition within the 36 segmented high purity Germanium detector. Pulse shape analysis is based on measured or calculated data sets of position dependent γ-ray interactions. Measurements were performed to characterise the crystals and the electronics of AGATA detectors. Space charge distribution, crystal axis orientation and differential crosstalk were quantified. The space charge distribution was determined for different crystal geometries applying an analytical approximation and numerical methods for the depletion of the detector at different bias voltages. The charge carrier mobility is anisotropic with respect to the crystal axis, which was measured by a front scan using a 241Am source. Differential and proportional crosstalk is taken into consideration [1, 2]. A library of calculated pulse shapes is employed to compare with measured data. A final position resolution of less then Δ x = 5 mm is achieved for the positions of interactions for an in beam measurement at INFN Legnaro.
