Actin is a major component of the cytoskeleton of almost all eukaryotic cells. In thermal equilibrium in vitro polymerized actin filaments (F-actin) are fluctuating. These fluctuations are restricted by surrounding filaments which form a tube like volume. The propability distribution of the tube dimension has been measured by means of confocal fluorescence microscopy in our group [1, 2]. Based on these results we are analyzing the F-actin tube conformation under specific external conditions like enforced alignment exerted by shear force as well as counterions.
