The fabrication of crystals from protein solution has become the defining task in obtaining high resolution protein structures by X-ray diffraction. Here, the use of salt in the solution is commonly known to increase attractive interactions and therefore *salting out* the proteins. Nevertheless, the fabrication of high quality crystals is still a challenging task, due to the many different influences on the interactions in the protein solution, e.g. temperature, ionic strength, protein concentration, and pressure. We present the results of Small Angle X-ray Scattering experiments, which reveal the combined influence of hydrostatic pressure and ionic strength on the interaction potential of dense protein solution. Here, a more precise knowledge about the interaction between proteins in solution can help to predetermine possible crystallization conditions, which is even more important when only a small amount of protein is available.
