Glassy dynamics in Pyrene-1,3,6,8-tetracarboxylic tetra(2-ethylhexyl)esther studied by Differential Alternating Current Chip Calorimetry and Dielectric Relaxation spectroscopy — •Christina Krause, Huajie Yin, and Andreas Schönhals — BAM Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing, Unter den Eichen 87, D-12205 Berlin
The glassy dynamics of the discotic liquid crystal Pyrene-1,3,6,8-tetracarboxylic tetra(2-ethylhexyl)esther is investigated by a combination of Differential Alternating Current Chip Calorimetry and Dielectric Relaxation Spectroscopy. The temperature dependence of the dielectric relaxation rate in the low temperature range might be described by means of the Vogel-Fulcher-Tamann equation. A detailed analysis shows that the glassy dynamics changes in the vicinity of the phase transition temperature. To unravel a different aspect of the underlying processes Differential Alternating Current Chip Calorimetry is applied. Dielectric and calorimetric data show a good agreement. In the higher temperature limit charge transport is detected. Experiments on confined Pyrene-1,3,6,8-tetracarboxylic tetra(2-ethylhexyl)esther are carried out in the near future.
