LuFe2O4 is a compound showing fascinating magneto electric coupling via charge ordering. Electronic and magnetic properties of the charge ordered phase of LuFe2O4 have been investigated by means of x-ray spectroscopic and theoretical electronic structure approaches [1]. Using hard x-ray radiation of the ESRF ID12 circular polarisation beamline, Fe K-edge and Lu L-edge spectra have been detected. The Fe K-edge spectra will be discussed in comparison to the former Fe L-edge spectra. The Lu L-edge spectra show very interesting XMCD signals from which a small magnetic moment could be deduced.
