The cuprate La8Cu7O19 is an example of a low dimensional system having five-leg ladders in its spin structure. It is an interesting candidate to explore the whole range of phenomena occurring in such low dimensional systems and to investigate the resemblance of these odd leg ladders to one dimensional spin chains by probing spin excitations. Here, we present the single crystal growth of this compound and discuss first experimental data of basic physical properties of our crystal.
