One-dimensional many-body quantum transport of Bose-Einstein condensates — •Julien Dujardin, Arturo Argüelles, and Peter Schlagheck — Département de Physique, Université de Liège, 4000 Liège, Belgium
We calculate the transport properties of an ultracold gas of Bose-Einstein condensed atoms that is coupled from a magnetic trap into a one-dimensional waveguide [1,2]. A central aim of such guided atom lasers [1] is to study the role of atom-atom interaction in many-body transport processes across finite scattering regions within the waveguide resembling tunnel junctions or quantum dots. Our theoretical approach to solve this problem is based on a scattering formalism for which we consider the system to consist of two semi-infinite non-interacting leads and a finite interacting scattering region. We calulate the atom density, the current, and the transmission in the steady-state regime and compare these observables to the mean-field regime where the dynamics of the Bose gas is described by a Gross-Pitaevskii equation [2].
