Wγ production at the LHC at NLOStefan Dittmaier and •Markus Hecht — Physikalisches Institut, Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg

We present a full calculation for Wγ production at the LHC with a leptonically decaying W boson at NLO QCD. In order to separate hard photons from jets, we use a quark-to-photon fragmentation function à la Glover and Morgan which treats photons and partons democratically in collinear configurations. We provide numerical results for the total cross section and several distributions which show that the QCD corrections have a big impact on the leading-order cross section and distributions. These huge corrections originate from gluon-induced contributions that only appear at next-to-leading order. Given that the QCD corrections are very large, they are also important in studies of anomalous couplings between photons and W bosons. Finally, we compare our results obtained with MCFM, which makes use of the fragmentation function by Glover and Morgan as well since recently.
