Propagation of Galactic Cosmic Rays — •Matthias Mandelartz and Julia Becker — Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Bochum, Germany
It is believed that galactic supernova remnants are the primary source of cosmic rays for energies of up to 1 PeV. To test this hypothesis the galactic supernova remnants that have been detected in high energies are modeled based upon their spectral energy distributions including synchrotron radiation, inverse Compton scattering, bremsstrahlung, and neutral pion production. This leads to an estimation of primary and secondary particle spectra, such as hadronic and leptonic spectra, at the source which can be propagated. For the propagation the GALPROP code is used to calculate the cosmic ray spectrum from the discreet distribution of galactic supernova rememnants and their respective estimated particle spectra. Finally the result will be compared with the observed spectra at Earth.
