Composition analysis of Cosmic-Rays using the full detector configuration of IceTop — •Daniel Bindig — Bergische Universität Wuppertal, Fachbereich C, 42097 Wuppertal
At the end of 2010 the deployment of the IceCube neutrino telescope has been completed. Its surface component IceTop now consists of 81 stations with two tanks each. Each tank is filled with clear ice containing two photomultiplier tubes running in high and low gain mode. Particles produced in air showers travel through the ice and emit Cherenkov light, which is measured by the PMTs.
The goal of this study is the determination of the Cosmic-Ray compositon using IceTop as stand-alone detector. Coincident measurements between IceTop and the deep ice detector are constrained to nearly vertical showers and thus low statistics at higher energies. This is not the case for IceTop alone and therefore measurements of the composition up to higher energies are promising. The lateral distribution of the tank signal heights is fitted by a double logarithmic parabola. We investigate the sensitivity of fit parameters to mass composition and test different parametrisations of the lateral distribution.
