The production of 12B through cosmic muon spallation in Double Chooz — •Lee F F Stokes, Josef Jochum, Tobias Lachenmaier, Daniel Greiner, Dennis Dietrich, and Markus Röhling — Kepler Center for Astro & Particle Physics, Universität Tübingen

Double Chooz is a reactor antineutrino experiment, designed to measure the disappearance of νe and consequently measure the mixing angle Θ13.

The location of the far detector, 1.05 km from the reactor has an overburden of 300 m.w.e and therefore gives rise to a muon rate of 14 Hz. This means that it is prone to cosmogenic isotopes resulting from muon spallation, one of which is 12B. The beta decay resulting from this particular isotope is a source of background which needs to be better understood for the reduction of systematic errors, especially with the forthcoming addition of the near detector.

This talk aims to give an overview of 12B in the far detector, including tagging and the extraction of a visible beta spectrum, whose rather high Q value of 13.4 MeV gives an extra reference point for calibration of the detector.
