Feasibility study of segmented broad energy germanium detectors — •Burcin Dönmez — MPI für Physik

Germanium detectors have been used for γ-ray spectroscopy for decades and for neutrinoless double beta decay (0νββ) experiments recently. One of the biggest challenges in these experiments is to discriminate 0νββ events from γ-ray induced backgrounds. Pulse shape simulations of segmented n-type Broad Energy Germanium (BEGe) detectors are carried out to find an optimum segment geometry to extract position information and event topology using mirror charges. The detector simulated has a diameter of 75 mm, a height of 40 mm, a point contact with a diameter of 5 mm, and a special segment configuration.
