Characterization of BEGe detectors for Gerda — •Katharina von Sturm — Eberhard Karls Universität, Tübingen, Germany
The Gerda collaboration is searching for the neutrinoless double beta decay (0νββ) by operating bare Germanium (Ge) diodes in Liquid Argon (LAr). The diodes consist of ultra pure Ge, enriched in 76Ge. They serve as source and detector at the same time. Before deploying them in the Gerda cryostat the diodes have to be characterized. Therefore spectra of standard sources (Am241, Ba133, Co60 and Th228) are analyzed and compared to Monte Carlo simulations to determine the main parameters of the diodes, e.g. dead layer or active volume.
Data taking of phase I of the Gerda experiment started in November 2011. In the second phase of the experiment so-called Broad Energy Germanium (BEGe) diodes will be deployed. In preparation of the procedures with the enriched detectors a depleted test BEGe was characterized. In this talk results of recent measurements are shown. This work was supported by BMBF.
