Cross section measurement of pp→µ+µ−+b+X with 2010 LHC data at the ATLAS experiment — •Peter Steinbach, Kobel Michael, Mader Wolfgang, and Prudent Xavier — Institut für Kern- und Teilchenphysik, TU Dresden, Deutschland
In perturbative QCD, the study of heavy flavor partons in initial and final states of high energetic proton-proton collisions is a challenging field in terms of experiment and theory. The theoretical description of heavy flavor parton density functions is demanding due to non-negligable charm and bottom pole masses at higher orders of αs. On the experimental side, identifying or tagging jets originating from heavy flavor parton emission requires performant algorithms and a thorough understanding of detector performance. We present results on the event-based cross section measurement of pp→µ+µ−+b+X at mµ+µ− ≈ mZ0 with 2010 LHC data collected by the ATLAS experiment. An in-depth comparison with Next-to Leading Order as well as Leading Order plus Parton Shower predictions and state-of-the-art parton density distributions is made taking all related systematic uncertainties from experiment and theory into account.
