Measurement of HEPTopTagger performance in the semi-leptonic top decay channel — •Gregor Kasieczka, Sebastian Schätzel, André Schöning, and David Sosa — Physikalisches Institut, Universität Heidelberg
Boosted top quarks are expected to be a sensitive probe of new physics. The HEPTopTagger algorithm can identify boosted, hadronically decaying top quarks. Before this algorithm can be used for physics studies, such as fully-hadronic resonance searches, a detailed analysis of the performance is necessary.
For this purpose the full 2011 ATLAS dataset is used. A single lepton trigger and additional cuts on Missing Energy variables ensure selecting mostly events coming from processes involving two top quarks or a W boson accompanied by additional jets.
This talks presents a measurement of the top-tagging efficiency, rejection rate of background events and resolutions for tagged top quarks. The effect of multiple interactions per bunch-crossing (pile-up) on the event selection and HEPTopTagger performance is studied in detail.
