A top quark mass measurement in the lepton + jets channel using 1 fb−1 of data collected in the first half of the 2011 ATLAS experiment run will be presented. The measurement uses an explicit reconstruction of the tt decay. The reconstructed top and W masses are used to form a stable ratio against fluctuations in the jet energy scale (JES). The ratio is referred to as the R32 estimator. Using the dependence on the top mass, a template fit is performed to data in both, the e+jets and µ + jets channels, separately. Relevant systematics are also studied in order to quantify the uncertainty on the mass measurement.
