Search for a Standard Model Higgs Boson in the H->WW->lvlv VBF channel — •Andreas Walz, Karl Jakobs, Evelyn Schmidt, and Ralf Bernhard — Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg
Although the Vector Boson Fusion (VFB) production mode for a Standard Model Higgs boson at the LHC has a much lower cross-section than the dominating gluon-gluon fusion process, it is both experimentally and theoretically very intersting. Due to its very clean signal topology of two hard jets in the forward regions of the detector, it allows on the one hand to identify final states of the Higgs decay which would be overwhelmed by large backgrounds if one could not exploit the VBF topology to extract the signal process. On the other hand, the VBF production mode is important to study the role of the Higgs boson in the mechanism of Electroweak Symmetry Breaking. One of the most sensitive channels is the Higgs decay into two W bosons followed by the leptonic decays for both W bosons ([VBF]->H->WW->lvlv). In this talk recent results of the H->WW->lvlv VBF analysis using data recorded in 2011 with the ATLAS detector at the LHC (CERN) will be shown.
