Selection of a pure sample of electrons using Multi-Variate Analysis techniques — •Luigi Calligaris — DESY, Hamburg, Germany

The CMS detector at the Large Hadron Collider operates in an environment with large backgrounds due to the high rate of proton-proton collisions and the variety of particles they produce. For the search for the Standard Model Higgs boson in the H0→ ττ → e µ channel we require a clean sample of events containing electrons. In my talk I am going to present the status of the Higgs analysis in this channel and discuss the use of Multi-Variate Analysis techniques for an improved identification of the final state electron.
