Search for the SM Higgs boson in the H→τlepτhad channel — •Thomas Schwindt, Jürgen Kroseberg, and Norbert Wermes — Physikalisches Institut, Rheinische Friedrich Wilhelms-Universität Bonn
Searches for the SM Higgs boson at the LHC have already restricted the still possible mass range to a small window close to the LEP exclusion limit of 114 GeV. In this region, its decay has a relatively large branching fraction into ττ final states, which therefore have a significant impact on the confirmation or exclusion of the SM Higgs Boson. This talk presents the status of the search with the ATLAS experiment in the τlepτhad channels where one tau decays into a muon or electron and the other hadronically. While the well isolated leptons can easily be identified, the hadronic decays can also be faked by a mis-identified QCD jets. The corresponding background contributions are therefore estimated with data-driven methods where possible. Especially the irreducible Z→ττ background is estimated from Z→µµ data with embedded simulated τ decays.
