Perspectives of Plasma-Wakefield Acceleration — •Florian Grüner — Universität Hamburg
Plasma Wakefield Acceleration (PWA) attracts great interest from accelerator and applied physics due to their unprecedented ultra-high field gradients on the order of TV/m as well as their intrinsically ultra-short electron bunch lengths of just few femtoseconds. Though still at its beginning, first experimental breakthroughs over the last years added to the emergence of this new field of accelerator physics.
This overview talk aims at the very basics of PWA, with a focus on the open questions to be tackled in the near future. It also covers a tentative summary of ongoing PWA research projects in Germany.
