Performance of the DESY LP-TPC GEM module — •Sabato Stefano Caiazza — DESY, Hamburg

One of the tracking detectors that is being designed to be used for an experiment (ILD) at the future International Linear Collider (ILC) is a big size TPC. To achieve the resolution goals set for this detector the traditional readout via Multi-Wire Proportional Chambers is not sufficient anymore. In their place it will be necessary to use the most modern technologies in gas amplification systems, namely the Micro-Pattern Gas Detectors (MPGD).

In the past two years we developed a new GEM (Gas Electron Multiplier) based readout module for the LP (Large Prototype) TPC. This TPC is a benchmark detector that DESY built for the LCTPC collaboration to develop the technologies necessary to build a TPC for a Linear Collider experiment. The module was designed with a 3 GEM stack and a novel ceramic support system for the GEMs and it was built during the year 2011. In July 2011 we tested this readout module at the T24 electron test beam line of the DESY accelerator. Since then I analyzed those data collected during that test beam campaign and I'm going to present the first results of these analysis to evaluate the performances of said module.
