Directions in Detector Front-End Electronics after LHC Phase I — •Marlon Barbero — Physikalisches Institut, Universität Bonn, Nussallee 12, D-53115 Bonn, Germany
This Gruppenvortrag will address future directions of chip and pixel detector developments.
Pixel detectors based on hybrid technology have been successfully deployed at the LHC. For LHC upgrades, new directions in IC technologies are explored for coping with the very high hit rates and the radiation environments. Feature size scaling down is one line of R&D, examples of which are the successful 130 nm CMOS chip development for the Insertable B-Layer of ATLAS as well as first prototypes in 65 nm CMOS technology. In recent years, High Voltage CMOS technologies have opened some interesting possibilities for monolithic integration addressing radhard pixel detectors. Finally, the exploration of 3D electronics has started. This challenging technology opens new opportunities for HEP. First demonstrator chips are now at hand opening the possibility for low mass, high bandwidth pixel modules.
