Transverse phase space studies for direct XUV-seeding at FLASH — •Sven Ackermann — University of Hamburg, Germany
During the shutdown in 2009/2010 the Free-Electron Laser in Hamburg (FLASH) was upgraded with an experiment to study the high-gain-FEL amplification of a laser "seed" from a high harmonic generation source in the XUV wavelength range below 40 nm - sFLASH.
For an optimal FEL- and seeding performance knowledge of the electron bunch transverse phase space as well as control on the electron optics parameters is required. Therefore the transverse phase space of the accelerated beam has to be fully characterized.
In this contribution the transverse emittance of the electron beam produced by the FLASH linac has been investigated for various machine parameters along the linac. In addition the possible error sources of the measurements of the transverse phase space are discussed and tolerance studies on the machine parameters, e.g. the energy deviation or errors of the magnetic lattice, were performed. The possibilities of matching the electron optics to the theoretical model have been investigated as well as issues related to the dispersion and undulator focusing has been discussed. In addition to the experimental data, measurements of beam parameters like dispersion and the longitudinal phase space are presented.
