Signal Reconstruction for IACTs — •Sabrina Einecke — Technische Universität Dortmund
In recent years Imaging Air Cherenkov Telescopes (IACTs) became more and more important for the gamma astronomy. These IACTs detect very high gamma radiation from cosmic sources indirectly by imaging the Cherenkov radiation produced by extensive air showers. Current and future projects require a high sensitivity and a low energy threshold. Furthermore an improvement of reconstruction methods is very important to increase the angular and energy resolution and to achieve a better background rejection. During the signal reconstruction the charge and the arrival time is extracted from the readout samples. Thereupon the timing information is used for the event reconstruction and to discriminate between signal i.e. gammas and background which consists for the most part of hadrons. Systematic studies concerning different algorithms to reconstruct the signal as a function of physical and instrumental parameters will be presented.
