Status of the CRIS experiment — •Hossein Aghai — Cern — Max Planck Institut fur Quantenoptik
The new CRIS experiment at ISOLDE will combine collinear laser spectroscopy and resonant ionization spectroscopy. For this laser radiation will be used to resosnantly excite and subsequently ionize atomic beams. The CRIS beam line routinely operates below 5· 10−9 mbar, a region where background events are highly surpressed. Thus the sensitivity of CRIS will allow hyperfine structure measurements of the rarest isotopes produced at ISOLDE. Furthermore collinear resonant ionization spectroscopy at CRIS offers the ability to purify ion beams from isobaric and isomeric contaminants, which allows for sensitive secondary experiments to be performed.
This talk will report on the current status of CRIS. The results of a proof of principle measurement of 207Fr will be presented.
The experiments will look at neutron deficient Francium isotopes where a (πs1/2−1)1/2+ intruder state has been identified in 201Fr and tentatively in 203Fr using α-decay spectroscopy. CRIS may provide further evidence of (πs1/2−1)1/2+ intruder states in neutron deficient francium isotopes.
