For accurate Energy measurements in γ-ray spectroscopy with CsI(Tl) detectors temperature variations have to be precisely monitored because of the temperature-dependent scintillation properties of CsI(Tl) Crystals and the temperature-dependent gain of photo-sensors. Since the time constant in the scintillation process also depends on the temperature, these effects can be compensated by analyzing the time dependent pulse shape of detector signals. The method uses the correlation between the gain and the pulse-shape to correct the effect of the temperature. The aim of this method is to conserve good energy resolution in a temperature varying environment, without the need to measure the temperature of the detector systems externally. The suitability of the method was investigated using in addition also external temperature measurements of the crystal in the temperature range of 0∘C to 60∘C. First results will be presented.
