We have recently measured the stability diagram of a 52Cr dipolar BEC in a 1D optical lattice, showing its strong dependence on the lattice depth [1]. This result opens up the way to investigate the collapse of this system in various regimes. The regime of deep lattice is of particular interest, as for the quasi-2D geometry of the lattice sites, roton features are expected to emerge and be enhanced. We discuss recent results on both lines of investigation, as well as future experiments on dipolar BECs in tailored multi-well potentials.
