We are presenting a setup to perform spectroscopy of small molecules like CO2, CO or H2O by using a tuneable, single mode operating VECSEL (Vertical External Cavity Surface Emitting Laser)1. The laser system provides narrow-linewidth operation (<10kHz) and still delivers a reasonable output power in the region of 100mW to obtain absorption spectra with high resolution.
We will focus on IR vibrational overtone spectroscopy in the 1.9 to 2.3 µm wavelength range.
Further on we plan to probe these molecules inside helium nanodroplets to study the interaction with the ultra cold (370mK) and superfluid matrix. In particular one expects relevant information on reduced rotational constants and the role of a normal fluid fraction in the vicinity of the dopant molecule.
