Inductive and Capacitive Coupling in a μN Radiofrequency Ionthruster (RIT) — •Robert Henrich, Michael Bachmann, and Christian Heiliger — I. Physikalisches Institut, Justus-Liebig-Universität Giessen, D-35392, Germany
An increasing number of space operations require special thrusters for high precision positioning of spacecrafts. Actually, this demand is even increasing in the near future. Within this research field a very promising concept is that of the μN Radiofrequency Ionthruster (RIT). The advantage is that the basic design of a RIT needs only a slight change going to a miniaturized RIT. The modified thruster produces the ion plasma in a cylindrical vessel surrounded by a coil. In comparison to the original larger system the capacitive coupling of the coil to the plasma increases. In order to compare the size of the capacitive and inductive coupling we perform calculations based on the Particle in Cell method (PIC).
