We discuss the thermodynamical properties of nuclear matter on the basis of chiral low-momentum interactions. The universal low-momentum nucleon-nucleon potential Vlow-k(Λ) is combined with three-nucleon forces from chiral effective field theory. With these two- and three-body interactions, we have calculated the free energy per particle for both isospin-symmetric nuclear matter and neutron matter by considering contributions up to second order in many-body perturbation theory. In order to examine the model-dependence of the results we have varied the resolution scale Λ, and performed also calculations with a regularized chiral NN potential instead of Vlow-k(Λ). The critical temperature for the liquid-gas phase transition has been determined to be Tc≃ 16 MeV. In the coexistence region of the nuclear liquid and gas phase the physical free energy has been determined by the usual Maxwell construction.
